Description:

The MGB is the archetypal classic British sports car produced from 1962 to 1980. Known for its sleek design, affordability and fun, the MGB became one of the world’s best-selling two-seaters. Variants included the MGB GT (a hard-top coupe) and later models with a V8 engine. Today, the MGB is celebrated as an accessible entry into classic motoring and remains a favourite among collectors and enthusiasts.

This particular car is a Mk III version, which was the last model before the ‘rubber bumper’ variant, and is arguably the ‘best of both worlds’ having the some of the later updates but with the chrome aesthetics of the earlier cars. In recent years (a lockdown project!) it has undergone a full restoration, and has a history file with photographs of work carried out plus various receipts etc. There is also a BMIHT Heritage Certificate with the file.

Before the restoration work started, a previous owner had it painted British Racing Green. It was completely stripped down, bare metalled, any repairs required to the steelwork sorted, then sprayed inside and out in the original ‘Bronze Yellow’ colour, and many parts were either renewed or replaced as the build took shape. The current owner purchased the car in 2024, and has had it in storage with us for the past 18 months but has now decided he wants a more modern classic, hence the little MGB is for sale.

The car is in completely standard spec, with the only significant modifications being electronic ignition, and period Minilite-style wheels – The original Rostyles come with it. The peppy A-Series engine starts and runs nicely as you would expect, ticking over with a ‘burble’ at the tailpipe, and accelerates willingly through the gears. The overdrive clicks in and out correctly, the brakes pull the car up nice and straight and the steering is very precise and direct – great for ‘chuckability’ around corners!

Looking around the car, the bodywork is lovely and straight with a high-quality paint job, with only few small marks here and there – The only significant ones to note are the edges of both doors where they may have been opened onto a garage door a few times and touched up, and a scratch on the rear quarter that has also been touched in. The chrome work is all in great shape with good straight bumpers. The interior is very good, with no nasty rips or cracks in the vinyl or plastics. All the electrics work, there is a modern ‘retro look’ stereo, and the horn has been relocated to a switch due to the aftermarket steering wheel. The vinyl ‘soft top’ roof is in sound tear-free condition; and there is a hood cover to keep things neat.

All in all, this is a fantastic, shiny yellow sports car that is absolutely ready to be used and enjoyed, and would make trouble free motoring for the rest of this year, and ready for the sunnier months in 2026! The odometer reads 58,892 but we cannot verify this. The car will be MoT’d upon sale (although MoT exempt). Please get in touch if you are interested!
