Description:

The Series III was launched in 1971, and didn’t change a great deal from the Series IIA that preceded it. It is still the type of classic Land Rover that features strongly in the general public's perception of the Land Rover, and its shape was carried right through from the Series II to the most recent Defender, which only this year has ceased production after its long 67 year life span. Upgrades from the Series IIA included a full synchromesh gearbox, new dashboard with integral heater and instrument cluster and radiator grille.

This particular model is a very useable short wheel base (88”) truck cab model making it a useful small utility truck as well as being able to carry two passengers up front. The ‘Two and a Quarter’ petrol fires up easily from cold, and goes down the road well with plenty of ‘go’ up until a cruising speed of about 50mph. The transmission works as it should, with the low range and four-wheel drive all working correctly, the steering is light and the brakes pull it up to a stop straight and strong.

Looking underneath, the chassis is good and solid having had the rear half professionally replaced with a new item – The back half is always the first to go due to road salt/muck so this will now be worry free. The front part is in very good order so it didn’t require a complete replacement although has had new dumb irons. The bulkhead is also in good order, although has had some patches in the footwells/bottom of the A pillars. The body work can be described as hand painted, with the small odd knock/dent, different shades of green and a bit of paint missing here and there – It’s not something you’ll have to be precious about! Inside, the front has three black vinyl seats and new rubber floor mats. The dashboard is functional and everything works, however the vinyl covering on the lower half is missing so has just been painted body colour, and the top has been recovered.

This honest old Land Rover would make a great investment that can be used, enjoyed and cherished, ideal for tip and garden centre runs, fetching logs from the woods in winter, or launching your boat on the beach. The odometer reads 31,958 but we cannot verify this, and the vehicle is MoT’d until 5th July 2025 (although exempt). The engine has recently had an oil and filter change, and we have checked all the levels throughout so it is ready to go. Do get in touch if you would like to arrange a viewing.
