Description:
Launched in 1948 at Earl's Court as the ‘The New Minor’, Morris Motor Limited made over 1.3 million examples by the end of production in 1972. Designed by Sir Alec Issigonis; who later went on to design the ‘Mini’, the Minor was originally offered in just saloon and ‘tourer’ body styles. However, in 1953 the range was expanded to offer a wood-framed estate; the ‘Traveller’, along with the panel van and pickup variants.
Affectionately known as ‘Bunty’, this car is a late Traveller produced in late-1971. Bunty was fully restored by a previous caring owner, which involved a strip down; repair and renovation of the floor pan, woodwork and bodywork, then a respray in its original resplendent Bermuda Blue. It has also had a halogen headlamp conversion, plus the helpful upgrade of disc brakes up front (a well-known kit using Morris Marina parts). She was bought from a well-known classic car auction back in 2016 for our director’s mother who fell in love with her, but after nearly a decade of ownership, it has sadly been realised it is just not getting used due her being afraid to drive it!
The 1,098cc A-Series engine starts readily and runs nicely, ticking over with a smooth ‘burble’ at the tailpipe and the trademark ‘parp’ on the over run! The controls may be unassisted, but she is very easy to drive and will get around town and country at a steady 50-55 mph. With a press of the brake pedal, it will pull up to a stop strong and straight thanks to the disc brake conversion.
Underneath, the restoration work has been done to a good standard and has had underseal in the past to protect it – There is the odd tiny bit of surface rust showing which could do with topping up, but we have left it to show the true condition – The photos speak for themselves. The bodywork is lovely and shines up very well, there is only the odd small mark on it – The worst part to note is a small dent at the back end of the rear left hand wheel arch which isn’t very noticeable. The interior is also excellent with black carpet and vinyl trim. There is the original heater in the cabin to help keep things warm in the colder months, plus a 12v power socket for charging phones etc.
All in all, this is a fantastic, well-loved “Woodie” that is absolutely ready to be used and enjoyed, for day trips with a picnic hamper on a weekend (which may be included…!), classic car shows in the summer, or even to use for daily tasks to make them less boring! We will service the car prior to sale, and will also put 12 months MoT on for peace of mind. There is a history file with her, including old MoTs and receipts etc, plus an original Morris 1000 Driver’s Handbook and Haynes workshop manual.
